This year James Bond created a Storm and Bodyflight got Vertigo!
As the year draws to a close we look back over 2008 at some of the events that have happened at Bodyflight.
February saw the staff at Bodyflight being shaken, but not stirred as James Bond himself came to fly.
Daniel Craig and Olga Kurylenko spent months training at Bodyflight ready for a scene to be filmed here at the tunnel for the new Bond film Quantum of Solace. The freefall scene involved the pair struggling over one parachute and was filmed at the tunnel at the director’s request to make the scene as realistic as possible.
The filming took place over the 4th and 5th of February and required all the windows to be removed from the flight chamber to make way for the 16 massive HD digital cameras. The flight chamber was also painted white so that a CGI background could be inserted behind the actors.
One staff member, Instructor Jay Richardson, earned a claim to fame after he was asked to act as a stunt double for Daniel Craig for some of the more advanced flying scenes.
In March the 3rd Bodyflight World Challenge saw over 200 competitors travel from all over the world to compete for the massive £20,000 cash prize pot.
The competition wasn’t just about the top class skydiving teams who competed, but also about the future of the sport as no less then 4 children competed in the competition. The Youngest of which was Justin Tinnucci of team Future. Together with his sister Kayla they entered in not only the Free Fly competition but also the 4-way!The other two youngsters were Ellie McCoy of team Aeon who at 14 (At the time) was the only child to enter the 4-way professional category.
Tom Carter represented the youngsters of Britain as he entered the Free Fly competition with dad John in team Gerontius and Jupiter.
Overall the competition was an amazing success and many teams have already registered for the 2009 event on the 4th and 5th of April.
August saw not only the World Skydiving Championships but also the British nationals. Bodyflight's sponsored teams did amazingly well and made us all proud!
Bodyflight Storm became the new female World Champions of 4-way formation skydiving and followed up this amazing achievement by winning the UK nationals just two weeks later for the second year in a row! Also successful were French team Babylon who were crowned World Champions in Free Fly, and Norwegian team Skywalkers who took the Silver medal.
Congratulations to all three teams .
September saw the opening of our newest attraction here at Bodyflight: Vertigo. At 125ft it is the tallest Powerfan descender in the UK and compliments a visit to the tunnel perfectly!
You can see a video of the jump on Youtube.
